9th May: Plympton 130-6 lost to Ivybridge 131-3 (S Kidd 31 ret, A Johnson 30 ret) by 7 wickets

Match report

We all turned up to an overcast and cooler than of late Plympton , with showers threatening, Plympton batted first on the artificial pitch, as this was our first real game of the season as U13’s we looked a bit rusty in the field to start with and Plympton seemed to take advantage with 11 coming off our first over this was rained back in over the following two overs to 18 it wasn’t until the 5th over that we could break the partnership of Jake Agnew and Ollie salt who had put on a respectable 35, with a catch by Arthur Johnson from the bowling of Sam Kidd, Sam continued in the 6th over taking the new batsman and Plympton Captain Lloyd Atwill LBW, we had now recovered from our slow start and took our 3rd wicket in the 8th over, which was opening batsman Jake Agnew who was on 24 at the time and looking a threat, this was by Arthur Johnson, who had a shot from Jake straight to hand which lifted out of his hands over his head to landed on the ground and in one movement Arthur picked the ball up as Jake was half way down the crease and threw the ball at Jakes stumps taking the bails off. The next wicket to fall was Harry Sadler taking his old team mate Evie Privett’s wicket with a catch off the bowling of Luca Turner, Surya Suresh now came to the fore for Plympton and settled there batting order with a mature batting display with a 31 (retired) off 24 balls including 6 fours, the next wicket wasn’t until 15th over when Lewis Clark took Isaac Rowsell for an LBW who had looked threatening and was on 17 at the time, Zach Dunn whipped the bails off Harry Morgan-hughes from the bowling of Luca Turner to claim our 6th wicket in the 16th over, we had now slowed Plympton who only managed 25 more runs in the last 5 overs with the loss of one more wicket in our 18th over.

The rain decided to make an appearance which it had been threatening to do all evening and Plympton finished on a credible 130, we now needed to get 131 or as it looked at the time more than 7 an over to win on run rate from the off.

The pressure was now on the batsmen, with our opening pair of the skipper Sam Kidd and Zach Dunn, they didn’t shy away from the challenge and between them had 41 runs on the board by the 4th over, the 5th over saw our first wicket fall that of Zach who was taken by a low catch from Lloyd Attwell off the bowling of Jake Agnew for 14, Arthur Johnson now came to the crease and Sam and Arthur proceeded to bat their way through to both retiring, first was Sam 31 (off 23 balls ) Finn Torley came in as Sam’s replacement and proceeded with Arthur to put more pressure on the Plympton side by grabbing every available single that was there and some that weren’t , but Plymptons fielding was now in disarray we didn’t lose our next wicket till the 13th over, Finn had put on 15 when Evie Privett took a catch off the bowling of Josh Willcocks, Arthur was still at the crease when Lewis Clark came in but was sadly caught by his old team mates Lloyd Attwell off the bowling of Josh Williams, in the 14th over Luca Turner now came in, Arthur now retired on 30 off 37 balls, this had now given Ivybridge the mid order stability for Luca Turner and Joseph Davies to finish the game for Ivybridge in the 18th over with Luca driving the last ball for what seemed a four but stopped an inch short of the rope so Joseph (1 not out ) and Luca (11 not out )having to run the last two to give us the desired 131 to Win.

A great Display by everyone with no one giving up and everyone playing their part, well done to you all,

We are now through to the next round
