Match report

We welcomed Plymstock to our ground on another good evening, last Friday showcasing our future talent coming through with the 40 plus ALL STARS and our U10/12’s all at the ground for training, Sam Kidd won the Toss, we elected to bat first a great decision compared to some of our oppositions decisions of recent games, the opening pair of Zach Dunn and Sam Kidd(c) started as usual with Zach playing himself in with a 4 off the first ball, Sam backed his partner getting Zach on strike at every opportunity till he was caught on 3, but this doesn’t really show how well Sam backed up Zach as we lost this first wicket on 36, Zach retired soon after on 33, Finn Torley came to the crease soon followed by Arthur Johnson these 2 didn’t miss a beat and carried on pilling the pressure on, both retiring Finn (30) Arthur (32)Luca Turner came in and put on more pressure before being run out on a healthy 23, Lewis Clarke (5 not out)and Ben Cornford (10 not out) saw us out to the end of the innings with a good score of 169 for Plymstock to chase.

This gave Sam the option to bowl a different opening order in Ben Cornford (2-11)coming in opposite Arthur Johnson (1-12), this proved a good decision as Plymstock where now 3-23 by the 6th over, the brother, sister partnership of Luca(0-21) and Maddie Turner(1-10) coming in to bowl, with Plymstock losing their 4th wicket for 67, it was left for the final four bowlers to clean up the lower order and they didn’t fail with James Deacon (0-1) in 2 overs including the only maiden of the game, Harry Saddler (1-10) off 2, Lewis Clarke (0-5)and Owen Cocks (1-10) this also included a run out, Zach taking 2 stumping’s again off the bowling of Ben and Harry, This team is a great unit with bat, ball and as always in the field, the younger team members who join this team step up to the mark and are as good as there older piers and from what I have heard they take this knowledge back into their own age groups and are doing well. This can only mean great things for the future of Ivybridge Cricket. We won by 9 wickets , and our now through to the semi-finals in Exeter on June 24th.

On another note the BBQ did a great trade and took over £200 pounds which is a record and brings in much needed funds for our club (possibly it was due to me not cooking … ), thank you all for supporting this, to Craig, Jackie and Robbin.
