5th June: Ivybridge 183 all out (S Kidd 50 ret, Z Dunn 50 ret) beat Plympton St Mary 114-7 (H Sadler 3-17, J Ferriman 1-14) by 69 runs
Match report
We welcomed Plympton St Marys, the first of Plymptons two teams we are playing in the coming weeks, to our pitch last night on a cooler and more overcast evening than we have seen of late, Ivybridge won the Toss and elected to bat which proved a great call from the skipper Sam Kidd, Plympton where already a player down as one of their number sadly pulled a ham string in the warm up as Evie Privet was sat on the side line watching, Ivybridge had no issues with Evie coming on as the spare fielder against her old club, even though the rules don’t really allow a Devon player to play in the 2 teams, as they say rules are there as a guidance, Our opening pair of Sam Kidd (c) and Zach Dunn (wk) both going for a quick scoring opening with first Sam retiring on 50 (off 38)9 of those boundaries and then Zach Dunn retiring on 50 (off 41) 8 of these also boundaries, first James Ferriman and then Lewis Clarke came to the crease for the retiring pair and neither of these two wanted to fall victim to their old club Plympton, both James and Lewis saw the game out to the last over James on 30 (off32) not out and Lewis on 20(off16) not out, Plymptons stand out bowlers where Luca Manuell 0-12 off 2 and Josh Williams 0-17 off 3. Ivybridge score was 183 at the end of the innings.
Plympton meant to attack from the off with their opening pair of Jack Sellick and Mathew Roberts, but Ivybridge’s opening bowlers of Arthur Johnson (0-10 off 2) and Sam Kidd (1-16 off 2)were going to keep the run rate down, Sam grabbing the first wicket of Mathew Robert in the second over, Jack Adams came in and with Jack Sellick they set about steadying the side it was left to the bowling partnership of Luca Turner and Lewis Clarke to keep Plympton’s run rate down, with Jack Sellick retiring on 50 and then Luca grabbing Jack Adams(17) wicket in the 9 th over, James Ferriman came in opposite Luca to bowl and the next wicket to fall was a Run out in the 12th taking the wicket of Josh Williams, Harry Sadler came into bowl and wickets now started to fall on a regular bases with Harry Saddler claiming 3 wickets, 1 in each of his overs including a wicket maiden great figures, Jack Sellick 64(off39) returned to the field as Plympton where down to their last batting pair of Jack and the Skipper Megan Nicholas, Jack wasn’t going without a last ditch fight putting 14 on the score off his last 6 balls faced, but it was down to James Ferriman to get the final wicket of the Plympton Skipper Megan with a caught and bowled, this closed the game out in the 18th over with Plympton all out on 114.
Ivybridge won by 69 runs ( first time I have seen a team not lose a wicket in a high scoring game great effort from the bridge with bat ball and in the field well done team.)
